Dear P.S. 7 Families,
Welcome to the 2018-2019 school year!!!! I want to take an opportunity to introduce myself. My name is Jason Chin and I am the new principal of P.S.7. Many families may already know that I was previously the principal of the 51st Avenue Academy but starting this year, we are now one school (grades Pre-K – 5). I am looking forward to an exciting and productive year as we welcome our new pre-K and kindergarten students to P.S. 7 and celebrate our returning students for all of their successes last year.
This year, P.S. 7 will continue to implement Columbia University’s Teachers College Reading and Writing Curriculum. My administrative team, coaches, and teachers continually seek out the most innovative teaching practices available and we know all of our students at P.S. 7 will thrive in this program. We will continue to tweak our units of study to meet the needs of ALL our students. We feel that this curriculum is rigorous, challenging, and is best aligned with New York State Learning Standards.
We will continue to implement the New York State Learning Standards aligned Go Math program within all of our classrooms. Our teachers will communicate the “real world” importance of all the mathematical skills that are being taught to our students and demonstrate how to apply these skills beyond the classrooms. We will continue to push our students to communicate and articulate their thinking and reasoning so that we can assess their strengths and address areas of concern.
One of our goals at P.S. 7 is to develop the “whole” child by exposing them to as many experiences as possible through our arts, music, science, dance, drama, and physical education programs. I am excited about the programs we have at the school and we know this will provide additional experiences for all of our students.
Again, I am excited about this upcoming school year and I cannot wait to work with you and your child! Please feel free to email me at JCHIN13@schools.nyc.gov or contact me at the school if you ever have any questions or concerns. In addition, please feel free to contact one of the assistant principals as well.
